It is time to get stylish and have some fun with vintage clothing; the 1970s is back and is going to be a huge trend this year, running through summer and through to winter.
This year’s revival sees a focus on sophistication and stylish glamour. When you are shopping for 70s vintage there is much to choose from – even the high street will be full of 70s-inspired items. But of course, the vintage boutiques are full of the real deal. When looking through the rails in vintage stores, search for items that emphasise the waist, like high-waisted trousers, the A-line skirt, that made to measure jacket and the perfect glamorous maxi dress that nips in at the waist.
So what are the key trends to look out for?
The print: There are so many amazing printed shirts and blouses out there for this decade. They can be worn tucked into flares, high-waisted trousers or with an A-line skirt with a fur gilet and a floppy hat.
The maxi dress: This is such a flattering dress to wear: floor length and nipped into the waist with flowing sleeves and high necks, in lurex, nudes and of course – black. This style of dress is perfect for any occasion can be worn dressed up or again with a floppy hat.
Bell sleeves: On blouses and dresses, this is a flattering shape for all sizes.
Platforms: From sandals to ankle boots, these are perfect to add a little (or a lot of) height.
Disco Fever: Choose anything with sequins, hot pants, or a body worn with thick black tights and platform ankle boots. This is great look for hitting the town and having some fun; it’s time to get your dancing shoes on!
This decade is my favourite as far as fashion goes. I love the silhouettes, the patterns and fabrics, and I adore sequins. For some people, shopping for this decade can be a little unnerving. My advice is to not be afraid of clashing patterns and platforms! After all, fashion is meant to be fun and the 1970s is certainly that.
