The sun has got his hat on… finally! After an overly long wet and dreary April, May finally brought about the change we vintage summer lovers have been longing for! Time to indulge in some summer finery, and relax in the garden. Pimms, anyone?
While writing this, there are Jubilee party plans going ahead around me. I never need an excuse to celebrate but this will be a special day in British history. Last issue we brought you a regal round-up and we cannot wait to see your party pictures. Send them in to lisa@dragoonpublishing.com to feature on our website!
It’s a busy time of year in Britain: the Queen’s Jubilee, the mad sun dash and of course The Olympics. As host to the world famous sporting games, it is absolutely everywhere! In fact, the torch is even passing right by the Vintage Life HQ! Whether or not you’re the sporty type, you can soak up the atmosphere in your own way. The games have been around far longer than the eras we cover in the magazine, so it has been great researching those games that ran in the 20s, 30s and so on, with the exception of the 1916, 1940 and 1944 games, which were duly cancelled as a result of the World Wars. Although it might not be your thing, you can soon add your own vintage twist. We have gathered together some great vintage, sporty looks, without needing to get all hot and sticky, or feeling a sudden urge to run, hop, skip and jump! Take a look at page 22!
The one thing I do love about The Olympics is the fact it involves people from across the world. So many cultures and countries coming together. This is why we decided this issue we would ‘run’ a foreign focus! From senorita style (10) to a Tokyo twist (42), vintage Vegas (48) to ‘not so’ in Norway (60). It’s great to see the vintage scene from around the globe!
With so much to look at, I’ll let you get to it, I’m off to watch the Eurovision Song Contest…I’m a secret huge Engelbert Humperdinck fan, wink! I have given him ‘douze points’!
See you next issue…
