Well, the weather has finally made a break for the better and we welcome the glorious month that is May. Many of you are no doubt planning vintage inspired excursions to take advantage of the weather but for me, May means one thing – the Eurovision Song Contest. I have to admit; the Eurovision is my guilty pleasure. I am obsessed with it and have been since my early years. To celebrate this year’s contest, where the lovely Bonnie Tyler will be representing the UK, I had the opportunity to catch up with two of my favourite Eurovision performers – Nicky
Stevens from Brotherhood of Man who won in 1976 and Cheryl Baker, who won with Bucks Fizz in 1981. Catch our Eurovision special feature on page 46!

Are you mad for Mad Men? The VLM team certainly are and this issue, we take a look at the style of four of the leading ladies: Megan Draper (my favourite), Betty Francis, Joan Harris and Peggy Olsen. The Vintage Nostalgia show is being held at Stockton Park on 31st May, 1st & 2nd June. It’s an event run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts! We are celebrating all that is old and interesting from before the turn of the century up to the 1980′s including Vintage Clothes, rusty autojumble bits, vintage /classic cars/motorbikes, old fashions, vintage furniture,  motoring memorabilia, antiques, kitchenalia, music and Dance. Dance the night away  on Saturday with the fast paced ”Obscuritones“ (Rockabilly at its best!). Step back in time meandoring the vintage trade stands in the beautiful surroundings of Stockton Park.

Carefully curated by its founder, Savitri, whose vision was developed over the course of two decades working in the fashion, music and film industries, the Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair offers attendees an immersive vintage experience. From vendors selling collectables from famous fashion houses such as Dior, Westwood, Yves Saint Laurent and Ossie Clark through to tailors, including Kirstie Robinson, celebrity alterations expert, providing advice and on the spot alterations this is the destination fair for the vintage fashionista; with tastemakers travelling from Europe and beyond to participate.

Founded in 2009 in response to the growing interest in vintage fashion that was sparked by iconic shows such as Sex and The City and celebrity wearers such as Kate Moss and Dita Von Teese, the Clerkenwell  Vintage Fashion Fair aims to educate and entertain. Well wasn’t I premature with that! It’s freezing. In fact, I’m sat here with a number of layers on and I’m still chilly. I need a holiday! I’m still fed up of this so called spring weather… I need some sun, a lot of relaxation and a break from the modern world! Yep, you read that right, I’m heading back in time. No sadly, I didn’t invent or even fi nd a time machine (much to my
dismay), but I’m doing the next best thing… I’m heading to 1954 (in my head anyway!). That’s the point though, we can escape the modern world and all its pressures and technology, and lose ourselves in other worlds. It doesn’t take much. Look all around you and you will find echoes of a past, that’s still here… you just have to open your eyes to see it. Growing up as a re-enactor, I spent many a weekend in the past, it was magical…and no doubt it’s the large foundation of why I do what I do today. When I meet readers, they always ask me how I got into vintage. Well, I’ve always been into the past, and therefore all that comes with it…it has always been a part of me, but then isn’t this true for everyone? We all have a connection to the past, it’s just a case of whether of not you keep the door open, or visit it once in a while. You can connect to it in so many ways and it’s exciting to fi nd new avenues to explore. As I said, I’m heading to 1954, I may be some time.
