Birthday present…

I LOVE to read! Being an Editor, this may come as little surprise. I like little better than whiling away an afternoon in a bookstore and running home with my finds! I love shiny, new paperbacks, crumbly, treasured second-hand finds – I save ‘em all!

Unfortunately as I approach my groaning shelves, it occurs to me that I am fast running out of space, so for my recent birthday (don’t ask how old, I seem to be ageing in dog years) I have been given a Kindle!

I have resisted a Kindle for such a long time (it doesn’t have that new-book smell!), but I have to say I love it. It’s so light and compact and it comes everywhere with me. And the best thing? It holds SO many books…

Now I need a vintage cover, and to start downloading my Christmas reads. For me, the festive season is not truly upon us until I have started to read A Christmas Carol.

Has anyone else succumbed to a ‘reading device’? If so, tell me what you think, and what you are reading!

I’ve finally succumbed to a kindle and have managed to pare down my room fully of books to just five bookcases worth. Some books I just cant part with but the kindle definitely makes reading on the go a whole lot easier.
    Happy Birthday! x

    Thanks Ruth!
The screen is good – it isn’t backlit like a laptop, so in that sense it is similar to a real book.

For THIS Christmas? That is early – naughty! ;-)

I second Styleabaad, I oloove reading but it must be with an actual book. To truly understand and like a book, I must turn the pages and hear that sound, and smell the paper. It’s just too important for me =) Plus, since I have extreme eye dryness I cannot look at a screen too long or they start burning, itching and watering, it’s a total disaster.

I also love reading and travel quite a lot and have been thinking about a kindle… but I also love books! How do u find the screen for reading from? I don’t enjoy reading from my laptop screen very much.
Enjoyed your post, thanks & Happy belated Birthday

  5. I love reading too and as a lover of books I wasn’t sure about the Kindle, but I got one for Christmas and I love it! I keep trying to explain to fellow booklovers it’s ok, you can still like books and a kindle!

I of course made myself a cover straight away from Vintage Barkcloth!

I’m sure that must be so much more practical that diaggrng around like 3 books in your handbag I am a big reader myself but I try to limit myself to one book at a time and I don’t think I could replace the actual book with anything like this I like the feeling too much of the book itself plus I like to read in the bathtub and I’d be to scared to drop this device!!
